Classes:
How is African cooking different?
African cooking is a heritage passed from mother to daughter at a very early age. Instead of cooking from recipe books, you use your senses (mostly taste), as your ingredients may differ every week. Using your senses and feelings creates your finished product.
Mariam shows you how to enjoy exploring the unknown and introducing new flavours to your palate in a casual, relaxed atmosphere. Experiment with simple, new cooking techniques and ingredients. Enjoy a creative cooking workshop and leave inspired with a fantastic food experience and an understanding of East African culture.
Classes are conducted in a traditional and relaxed manner to suit experienced and non- experienced cooks. Recipes are authentic, and easy to follow. The classes are designed to suit young people, older couples, singles, men and women.
Having come from a culture that values food and is exempt from processed and packaged ‘junk’, Mariam is passionate about empowering others to cook fresh and healthy meals. She says: “We live in a world where obesity is taking over and the wrong message is given to our young, and we therefore have a need for change in this area.”
Mariam brings you a mix of different cuisines from around Eastern Africa. All dishes are cooked traditionally and each menu is planned for everyday dining. You can alternate these dishes for different days of the week and enrich your family’s palate with exotic flavours from faraway lands.
Enjoy cooking deliciously different food, and hear about East Africa’s rich culture and history, as Mariam shares these stories with her class. Find out how to make normally plain cooking tasty with fresh, aromatic spices. Experiment with a wide range of different spice blends. From spiced African omelettes to exotic rice Biryanis, you will truly enjoy the Eastern African Cuisine. Once you try Mariam’s fresh spice blends you’ll never go back to your old supermarket spices again.
